Minnesota Housing Start Up

Start Up generally defines a first-time buyer as someone without an ownership interest in a principal residence in the preceding three years. Eligible borrowers may receive downpayment and closing-cost loans of up to $18,000 through participating lenders.

These are repayable loans, not grants. Income, purchase-price, education, credit and other requirements apply; the maximum is not available to every borrower.

Olmsted County homestead

The county’s application requires ownership and primary-residence occupancy by December 31 and submission within 30 days of establishing homestead, no later than December 31, for the next tax year.

Homestead may reduce taxable value or tax rates and may affect refund eligibility. It does not guarantee a refund.
